The Bible Presbyterian Church Distinctives

The purposes for which Sydney Bible-Presbyterian Church is established are clearly declared in its Constitution under the "Statement of Purposes," which is herewith quoted:

  1. The salvation of souls
  2. The edification of Christians through the teaching of God's Word
  3. The promotion of godly worship
  4. The defence of "the faith which was once delivered unto the saints"
  5. The establishment and extension of Christian missions and institutions for the furtherance of the Kingdom of God on earth
  6. The promotion of Christian relief for the poor and needy
  7. The strengthening of mutual fellowship, encouragement, and unity among individual Bible-Presbyterian Churches in Australia, and among other Bible-believing churches of similar stand "for the Word of God and for the testimony of Jesus Christ" (Revelation 1:9)

The teachings of the Church is in accordance with that system of theology commonly called "the Reformed Faith" as expressed in the "Confession of Faith" as set forth by the historic Westminster together the Larger and Shorter Catechisms.

However, in these last days, the Word of God describes that "men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away." It is our sacred duty to guard ourselves against the inroads of such devious and apostate tendencies. Sadly, we see many professing Christian churches succumb to the onslaught of those who promote a conglomerate of differing religions into a One World Religion. These so-called Christian leaders have either capitulate or compromise the "most holy faith" which was handed down through the ages.

We, therefore, reiterate our firm stand on the chief tenets of the Christian Faith which is set out in our Constitution. We distinctively emphasize the following:

  1. The exclusivity of the Christian Faith in Jesus Christ, who God the Son incarnate, and is the only way, the truth and the life. There no other name given among men whereby we can obtain the forgiveness of sin and be saved from eternal torment in Hell (John 14:6; Acts 4:12)
  2. The total and verbal inerrancy and infallibility of Holy Scripture in its original languages (Hebrew, Aramaic, Greek) which is God breathed, and which is commonly called "the Bible" consisting of sixty-six books (Old Testament 39; New Testament 27) ; and is the supreme and final authority in faith and life (Psalm 12:6; Mark 13:31; 2 Timothy 3:16, 17)
  3. The institution of two sacraments by the Lord Jesus Christ, viz., the Sacrament of Baptism for believers and their infant children, which should be obeyed by all born-again Christians; and the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper to be observed by all born-again and baptised Christians (Matthew 28:19; Luke 22:19-20)
  4. The eternal security, bodily resurrection, and eternal blessedness of those who personally believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and the bodily resurrection and eternal conscious punishment of those who personally reject Jesus Christ (Daniel 12:2; Revelations 20:5,6, 12, 13)
  5. The separation from those who preach and teach contrary to the clear and categorical teachings of the Word of God (2 Corinthians 6:14-18)
  6. The defence and earnest contention of "the faith which was once delivered unto the saints" (Jude 3)
  7. The King James Version is the most faithful English translation of Holy Scripture, and should be diligently used for public and private reading and study
